  • Services we provide are eligible for reimbursement with most insurance plans, with some clients reporting anywhere from 50%-100% of reimbursement. We are an out-of-network provider which means we do not accept insurance but we provide superbills which you are able to submit to your insurance to receive partial or full reimbursement of session costs depending on your unique plan.

    KEY INFORMATION:

    • Clients are responsible for paying the full cost of their therapy session on the day of service.

    • Calamansi Counseling does not bill, preauthorize, or interact with insurance companies.

    • We will provide you with a “superbill” if requested, within 48 hours after your session which you can submit to your insurance to claim reimbursement.

  • Many Maryland & DC insurance plans include out-of-network mental health coverage, which can reimburse a portion of therapy fees after you meet your deductible. We provide a monthly superbill you can submit for reimbursement.

If you are planning on independently pursuing reimbursement with your insurance, here are some questions to consider asking your insurance provider:

    • Do I have out-of-network benefits for outpatient mental health therapy? If yes,

    • Do I need preauthorization for out-of-network therapy?

    • Do I have a deductible to meet? How much of it have I met this year?

    • After I meet my deductible, what percentage do you reimburse for out-of-network therapy? (Common: 50–80% of “allowed amount”)

    • What is the process for submitting a reimbursement claim once I receive a superbill from my therapist?

    • How long does reimbursement usually take? Can I set up direct deposit or are reimbursements issued only through mail?

  • All clients are required to have a credit or debit card on file (HSA & FSA accepted) which is stored in your HIPAA-compliant client portal and will automatically be charged on the day of your session and/or kept on file in the event of any late cancellations. Full payment is due on the day of service.

  • Visit our support section where you will find resources on financial assistance for therapy.

Calamansi Counseling also provides avenues for community care to make our services more accessible, beyond the 1:1 therapy room. Please visit our events page for updates on community gatherings, workshops, support groups, and more.

    • MARYLAND PARITY LAW: Maryland has mental health parity and network adequacy laws. This means that if your plan offers out-of-network medical coverage, it generally must offer comparable out-of-network mental health coverage. In some cases, if you cannot find an available in-network therapist within a reasonable time or who meets your needs (e.g. “cultural fit”), you may be able to request authorization with your insurance to see an out-of-network provider at in-network rates.

  • Calamansi, a Tagalog word, is a citrus hybrid fruit native to the Philippines and other parts of Southeast Asia. As a hybrid, it’s part kumquat, part mandarin orange, and a total chameleon. Calamansi is a staple in Filipino dishes, and for many, a symbolic of a connection to one’s heritage, cultural identity, and a warm reminder of home. Being that calamansi is a hybrid fruit, it seemed so very fitting for the name of our practice which is a space for cultural hybrids.

  • Due to licensing laws, telehealth services are currently available to clients physically in the areas of Maryland or DC during their session. And we offer international telehealth therapy on a case-by-case basis. You will receive an automated HIPAA-compliant link to join your telehealth appointment 30-minutes before your session begins, as well as appointment reminders prior to your scheduled appointment time. Sessions will not be able to proceed if you are driving.

  • Because therapy is a deeply relational process, we recommend most clients begin with a weekly frequency, as this is a key piece to building the therapeutic relationship. For some, therapy can last months and for others, years. During our time together we will do a routine “pulse check” and collaboratively map out when the time feels right to decrease the frequency of our sessions.

  • What you share in therapy is held in sacred confidence. In our work together we will collaborate and explore your community supports so we know how best to support you should any of the following situations arise:

    • If your are in imminent danger to yourself or another person

    • The abuse or neglect of a child or vulnerable adult

    • You as the client provide written consent for any of your information to be released

    • A subpoena by a court, signed by a judge, to disclose information

    • Certain insurance or billing disclosures
