Services we provide are eligible for reimbursement with most insurance plans, with some clients reporting anywhere from 50%-100% of reimbursement. We are an out-of-network provider which means we do not accept insurance but we provide superbills which you are able to submit to your insurance to receive partial or full reimbursement of session costs depending on your insurance plan.
KEY INFORMATION:
Clients are responsible for paying the full cost of their therapy session on the day of service.
Calamansi Counseling does not bill, preauthorize, or interact with insurance companies.
We will provide you with a “superbill” if requested, within 48 hours after your session which you can submit to your insurance to claim reimbursement.
-
If you are planning on independently pursuing reimbursement with your insurance company, here are some questions to consider asking your insurance provider:
Does my plan have out-of-network benefits?
What percentage am I reimbursed for routine out-of-network behavioral health care (i.e. what is the percentage I will be reimbursed of my therapist’s fee?)
Do I have a deductible to meet?
What is the process for submitting a reimbursement claim once I receive a superbill from my therapist?
IMPORTANT: Since there is likely a shortage of multicultural and Asian/Arab American therapists in-network with insurance, you can put in a request for an “out-of-network benefit exception” with your insurance company (the clinical reason being “cultural match/fit”). If your insurance cannot prove they have a provider who is in-network, culturally competent, and in alignment with your specific needs, they are responsible to reimburse for out-of-network care.

Existing clients may request sliding scale/reduced fee options during session or by email. If available, the sliding scale agreement will be sent via client portal.
Sliding scale is not available for couple/ relationship sessions. Calamansi Counseling does not provide pro bono therapy, as our pro bono offering is done through our work with the Liberation Line.
-
All clients are required to have a credit or debit card on file (HSA & FSA accepted) which is stored in your HIPAA-compliant client portal and will automatically be charged on the day of your session and/or kept on file in the event of any late cancellations. Full payment is due on the day of service.

Calamansi, a Tagalog word, is a citrus hybrid fruit native to the Philippines and other parts of Southeast Asia. As a hybrid, it’s part kumquat, part mandarin orange, and a total chameleon. Calamansi is a staple in Filipino dishes, and for many, a symbolic of a connection to one’s heritage, cultural identity, and a warm reminder of home. Being that calamansi is a hybrid fruit, it seemed so very fitting for the name of our practice which is a space for cultural hybrids.

Because therapy is a deeply relational process, we recommend most clients begin with a weekly frequency, as this is a key piece to building the therapeutic relationship. For some, therapy can last months and for others, years. During our time together we will do a routine “pulse check” and collaboratively map out when the time feels right to decrease the frequency of our sessions.
-
